Why I voted

These beautiful photographs were sent to me in an email by a friend. Yes, I was thinking of not voting because to me the realm of politics is a three ring circus from hell. The text that came along with these photos reminded me of what these women went through to get women the right to vote. They look poised in the pictures but they were starved and beaten while in jail. I can't ignore that. Especially when I still get angry while reading that women weren't considered citizens in so called civilized ancient Greece. It has only been 88 years since women's right to vote has been acknowledged by a constitutional amendment.

I loved this blog! Throughout history many cultures have justified the degradation of not only women, but of minorities as well. I am both of these and am saddened to think that had I been born in another generation my life would be very different. The right to vote is something that I have taken for granted for the last 9 years. My political science class has really opened my eyes and from here on out I plan on voting in every election I can. Your pictures are so meaningful and such beautiful works of art. Not just because of their historical value, but also because without words they tell a story...just like the art we are studying this semester.

My personal belief is that one should only vote if they are well-educated on the topics in which they are voting..

It's unfortunate that this country was founded upon sexist ideals (possibly rooted in Genesis 3:16), because it causes women who wish to abstain feel guilty and disrespectful.

I'm sure there are some (of either gender) who vote just to make a point of themselves.. to celebrate an 18th birthday, or to celebrate a right.. rather than specifically to better the country.

I only cast a vote on three things this November.
